Summary: | "Talking Trash began as a series of conversations. These conversations were with volunteers from across the community, all unknown to Dutch artist Jeanne van Heeswijk, to whom she posed the question: What do you waste? Volunteers describe practical and personal actions taking place in their households or woking lives in relation to waste, with some exchanges extending to a more metaphorical or global perspective. From these preliminary conversations, the artist distilled two or three minute narratives which the participants then re-enacted for her camera... A series of illustrated 'how to' (or 'how not to') instructional cards accompanies the exhibition. The set of 25 cards is wrapped in a poster-sized image of the Veolia landfill at Woodlawn. Each postcard features an image of the participant on the front and on the reverse, an illustrated guide to the participant's relationship with waste"--Poster wrap. |
